Project overview
The latest development from Falcon Retail Ltd is on a brand new Greenfield site in the town of Gillingham in North Dorset.
“This is the company’s fourth site and it is the biggest in our group at 3,000sqft. It opened on 4 February 2021 and since launch day it has gone very well.”
Gillingham is a less transient site than others and relies on local community for sales. “It is still early days and footfall is down due to the pandemic but basket spend is up. We’ve a mix of road users shopping in the store and we’ve seen how they buy more unleaded fuel here than at other sites. This shows us that local people are using the garage for fuel and shopping locally.”
To cater for their local shoppers, a mixture of refrigeration and freezers has been installed in the Budgens store.
Pastorfrigor supplied the cabinets – remote Kalifornia multideck glass door cases for BWS, open for busy traffic areas like chilled soft drinks, convenience snacks, produce, fresh meat, food-to-go, sandwiches, ready meals and pizzas. There is also 5m of Genova OV integral for frozen food. The installations are energy efficient utilising glass doors on the cabinets and Area Icool units for the plant.
“The quality, style and energy efficiency of the refrigeration is second to none. They also look good. You can tell they are well built,” says Tom.

What were the results?
Strong customer partnerships are a key component to building a successful business. Managing Director, Simon Robinson says: “We have worked with Tom for a number of years on a variety of Budgens stores. We believe this partnership will have long-term positive impact on Falcon Retail’s ability to solve refrigeration design challenges which offer significant benefits to their business. “Falcon Retail is expanding and they have invested the time and resource to become a leading forecourt and convenience operator in Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. We see great opportunities in leveraging our equipment ideas to best serve their consumers. “Under this long-term partnership, Pastorfrigor and Falcon will accelerate the growth of their chilled and frozen sales by supplying them with energy efficient, quality, customer focused equipment. “Our partnership with Tom ensures that Falcon Retail is in a position to carry on as the independent, entrepreneurial convenience and fuel provider that customers have come to know and expect. “Our mission is not changing. Our focus is on investing in our people and supporting our clients with top quality products and it is going to be something that continues. It's who we are." “We are planning our fifth site now and we are speaking to Simon and the team about the refrigeration offer. This summer will be a different time again for us but we’re looking forward to staycations and local customers using our stores more,” Tom concludes.
