Project overview

The Newt in Somerset is a country estate with splendid gardens, woodland and farmland. The core is Georgian, with limestone buildings the colour of burnt orange, the seat of the Hobhouse family for more than two centuries. Innovative design is paired with the freshest produce, beautiful country walks, superb service and a garden-scented spa – wrapping you in a sense of wellbeing. Fresh foods and pantry items are produced here on the estate, or by their friends and neighbours, are available from the Farm Shop. Everything they do is inspired by a love for the land, sustainable agriculture, artisan food production and Somerset heritage. They seek out the best local ingredients and traditional artisan methods. Crusty sourdoughs from our own Bakery; zesty jams and marmalades made by a local lass; the finest West Country cheeses maturing in our cheese room; the very best, slow-reared meats dry-ageing in our Himalayan salt wall butchery; and seasonal fruit, vegetables and herbs, grown on the Estate. Plus wines, oils and citrus from our sister estates in warmer climes.

What did Pastorfrigor install?

Pastorfrigor where asked to provide equipment to fit a very tight brief by the client and our partner Resolution Interiors. The standards the client expected where very high so careful consideration was given to the look, feel and performance of the equipment selected. Firstly we spent a lot of time designing a bespoke chilled cheese island, the cabinet had to be integral and be encased in a marble and Oak finish to keep in line with the aesthetics of the shop. We had this cabinet made in Italy by true craftsmen and finished in the UK with the cladding by Resolution Interiors. The meat counter then had to be carefully considered as it had to fit into a pre-designed ambient counter so they profile had to be perfect. The client wanted a 4m run of multi-deck along the back wall but was looking for a more artisan finish so we provided the Pastorkalt Filip cabinet and manufactured bespoke ticket edging for a more industrial feel and worked closely with Resolution Interiors on the height of the cabinet and cladding so that it fitted perfectly into the very clever display wall.

What were the results?

What was achieved in this beautiful farm shop on the estate is staggering, the overall finish and feel of the shop is out of this world and we feel our contribution in the design and supply of equipment really compliments the superb shop fitting and build of this space. The multi-decks and the counters are all running off an energy efficient Daikin system on the roof for added energy savings and reliability.
